Design Criminals Or a New Joy into the World New exhibition held under the “design> new strategies” cooperation between departure and the MAK.
"For the exhibition 'Design Criminals Or a New Joy into the World', a young generation of designers - graphic designers, product designers, and architects - were invited to continue the Viennese tradition of discourse on 'Ornament and Crime'", says British architect and designer Sam Jacob, explaining his concept for the exhibition to be opened at the MAK DESIGN SPACE on 28 September 2010. City of Vienna grants 800,000 euros to Viennese designers “focus Design”: departure awards funding for innovations made in Vienna for man and society in flux
Vienna's creative economy is an important pillar of the city's economic structure. In Austria's capital almost 110,000 persons are active in the creative industries. With 5.3 percent the number of company set-ups is markedly higher in the creative industries compared to the Viennese economy as a whole (4.6 percent). Since 2003 departure, Vienna's service center for the creative industries and subsidiary company of the Vienna Business Agency, has supported Vienna"s creative economy: under the call "focus Design - innovations for man and society in flux" the City of Vienna is granting some 800,000 euros of funding to five companies of Vienna's creative industries this year. "Design is a key element and important engine for sustainable change; it allows to secure a competitive advantage, above all in economically challenging times. We invest in the creative economy in order to strengthen Vienna's position as an innovative design and business location," explains Vienna's Vice Mayor Renate Brauner, City Counselor for Finance and Economic Affairs. We are interested in ecologically and socially sustainable design ideas and projects. A high-caliber jury chaired by Berlin design expert Carl Frech selected the five best projects out of 33 projects submitted under "focus Design". [...]

departure fashion night 2010 10 festival for fashion & photography
departure-the service center of the City of Vienna for the creative industries and company of the Vienna Business Agency as well as Austria's first business promotion agency for creative industries and for the field of fashion-will host the departure fashion night for the sixth time this year. It will take place in the scope of the '10 festival for fashion & photography', which will we held in Vienna from June 7 through 17, 2010. The departure fashion night on June 14, 2010, at Vienna's Semperdepot (start 9 pm, doors open at 8 pm) marks the beginning of five "fashion show days" and will feature five departure-funded fashion projects. we-workshops for entrepreneurs are held for the fourth time in Vienna by departure (the service center of the City of Vienna for the creative industries and company of the Vienna Business Agency) in cooperation with impulse (the funding program of aws-austria wirtschaftsservice), which is financed by the funding initiative evolve by the Federal Ministry of Economy, Family and Youth. These workshops offer further education and training for company founders and young entrepreneurs of the creative industries with a focus on architecture, design, fashion, music and multimedia. Successful experts from Austria and abroad will share their know-how in the form of round table talks and lectures and will talk about their personal experiences with the aim to use creative potential for entrepreneurial activities and bring ideas into fruition. departure presents exhibition project “curated by_vienna 2010” 20 artists curating exhibitions on art&film in 20 Viennese galleries
After a successful start in 2009, the project curated by_vienna - organized and funded by departure - has encouraged novel ways of systematic cooperation between galleries and curators. In 2010 this ambitious project takes place for the second time: The opening of curated by_vienna 2010 takes place on May 6 and once again coincides with VIENNAFAIR; the project involves galleries and curators and focuses on art&film, exploring the references of contemporary art to film and the moving picture. This year the 20 participating galleries have invited artists to curate shows on art&film in their gallery spaces. The exhibitions will be on view from May 6 through June 5. [...]

QUER: symposium and laboratory for intercreativity Vivid interest in departure’s symposium at Vienna’s Odeon Theater New impetus for intercreative formats
From March 11 to 13 more than 500 visitors interested in art and culture attended the program offered at Vienna's Odeon Theater. A mixture between symposium and laboratory, the program comprised lectures by prominent speakers as well as discussions, performances and readings. Over 50 participants from various creative fields talked about the opportunities and risks of unconventional approaches across the art genres. QUER: Symposium and Laboratory for Intercreativity Cross-discipline thinking and working
Around forty top protagonists from the fields of art and culture meet from March 11 to 13, 2010 in Vienna's Odeon Theater in order to redefine - or even remove - the boundaries between the creative disciplines. Intercreativity is the key word: an approach that questions conventional views and even produces new forms of art.
