Gustav Mahler Lied Collector's Edition

The lied lab 2011: gustav mahler festival was dedicated to the art songs of Gustav Mahler, one of the composers who are commemorated this year. On the initiative of baritone Wolfgang Holzmair, one of the most distinguished lied interpreters, and departure, the creative agency of the City of Vienna, the "lied lab" was held for the second time combining once more artful lieder and visual art. On five evenings Mahler’s songs were staged at ORF RadioKulturhaus by renowned lied singers and leading Austrian visual artists. The program also included a visualized Mahler remix by the exceptional Austrian electronic musician Christian Fennesz.

The lied lab 2011: gustav mahler festival continues the journey of exploration through the exciting world of the lied, which was started in 2010. The "lied lab" was initiated in 2010 with the aim of creating a new approach to classical music by combining the classical art song with digital filmic images.

The "Gustav Mahler Lied Collector’s Edition" contains seven DVDs based on the "lied lab 2011: gustav mahler festival". It presents five programs from the creative lab and two studio productions, which impressively demonstrate the new opportunities of cooperation between artists of different genres. The DVDs, however, do not offer mere reproductions of the concert live performances, but a completely new kind of encounter. The songs recorded in studio quality are combined with full screen-size visuals. This truly unique edition dedicated to Mahler’s lied oeuvre also includes a 192-pages publication with texts accompanying the seven programs of the "Lied Collector’s Edition" as well as photographs and portraits of the artists who participated in the "lied lab 2011: gustaver mahler festival" at ORF RadioKulturhaus.
