lied lab 2010: hugo wolf festival
Lied and visuals-exploring new territory together
The festival was held on the occasion of Hugo Wolfs 150th birthday. Although being considered one of the most important composers and innovators of the lied, Hugo Wolf is somewhat neglected by todays music business. On the initiative of baritone Wolfgang Holzmair-who is famous all over the world for his interpretations of the lied and in particular of the works by Hugo Wolf-five evenings were dedicated to the works of Hugo Wolf, which were performed by renowned interpreters of the lied with live visuals by leading Austrian visualists.
The combination of music and digital image allows a new approach to classical music and contributes to strengthening Viennas position as an internationally leading city in the areas of music and creativity.
The festival presented leading visualists, whose works offer a wide range of artistic approaches, and outstanding performers of the lied-Austrians or residents of Austria?who share a special dedication to the artful lieder of Hugo Wolf.
The festival was held by departure in cooperation with ORF RadioKulturhaus; musical curator was Wolfgang Holzmair.
